Job Summary

The Nurse Educator provides opportunities for the growth and development of clinical and non-clinical staff, working closely with hospital leadership. The role involves evaluating, creating, and implementing educational programs to improve patient safety and staff performance, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. The Educator acts as a consultant, educator, and facilitator for all clinical staff, providing orientation, mandatory training, and ongoing education. The role also involves participation in quality assurance and process improvement activities, positively impacting patient care, staff satisfaction, and retention.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of developmental stages across age groups and social, cultural, environmental influences.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in understanding and executing written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, performance improvement, and competency-based training.
  • Ability to model Service Excellence Standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a 12-month educational calendar for staff training.
  • Facilitate training sessions, including emergency behavioral interventions and compliance assignments.
  • Coordinate with leadership for annual competency training and serve as a QRN for restraint/seclusion/emergency assessments.
  • Assess ongoing educational needs and identify performance improvement opportunities.
  • Educate staff on policy changes and conduct training on CPI and CPR, ensuring recertification and proper documentation.
  • Conduct regular drills and develop process improvement plans based on performance evaluations.
  • Provide unit training on Service Excellence and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist HR in ensuring completion of mandatory training and maintain documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Licensing

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing with psychiatric nursing experience.

Licensure: Valid Texas RN license or equivalent, with a current Texas driver's license or valid state ID.

Experience

Experience in Mental Health Nursing preferred.
