Job description

Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a Nurse Consultant to join our team in our Winston‑Salem office. The Nurse Consultant provides high‑level medical analysis and insight in support of legal matters, including the review, interpretation, and synthesis of complex medical, educational, employment, and military records into clear, accurate, and client‑focused work product. This role partners closely with attorneys, clients, and internal teams to support case strategy, manage the medical components of matters, and deliver high‑quality analysis efficiently and cost‑effectively. The Nurse Consultant communicates clearly and professionally, demonstrates ownership and accountability for accuracy and deadlines, and meets or exceeds established quality, productivity and/or turnaround benchmarks while maintaining technical accuracy. This position is responsible for completing work with a high degree of integrity, ensuring appropriate work products that inform both defense and plaintiff strategy and support the best possible case outcomes. This role is performed utilizing firm‑approved technology tools, including document management, analytics, and AI‑assisted review platforms, to support efficient and accurate medical analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed medical record review and clinical analysis to identify key facts, issues, timelines, and themes relevant to the matter.
  • Prepare high‑quality client deliverables, which may include medical case and billing summaries, analytical and scientific research memoranda, deposition outlines/notebooks, witness materials, and organized record sets. Complete all other deliverables and duties as assigned.
  • Consistently evaluate all work products to assess relevance, inconsistencies, causation, standards of care, and damages; document clinical rationale and flagged issues clearly within deliverables and use discretion to elevate complex issues or risk areas to attorneys or management as appropriate.
  • Manage the medical aspects of assigned cases, including scope, priorities, deadlines, and deliverable sequencing.
  • Maintain accurate and timely time entries, utilize correct phraseology, and apply appropriate phase and task codes in strict accordance with internal and client guidelines.
Requirements
  • Minimum of four years of hospital‑based clinical experience. Prior experience as a nurse consultant, legal nurse consultant, paralegal, or in a law firm or litigation support environment is preferred. Comparable combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Active RN license in good standing in the state of NC.
  • Demonstrated experience with attention to detail and a commitment to excellent client service.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and deliverables under time constraints in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience collaborating with peers to balance workloads and provide case coverage during absences to meet client deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize large volumes of complex medical information into clear, accurate written work product.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions, policies, and procedures; write reports and business correspondence; and effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, management, attorneys, and clients.
  • Strong time‑management and prioritization skills, including comfort working with ambiguity and deadline pressure in a fast‑paced, billable environment.
  • Demonstrate alignment with management decisions through consistent behavior and written and verbal communications.
  • Provide guidance, training, and/or informal mentoring to less experienced team members; participate in special projects and process‑improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new platforms and technologies.
