Job description

Unit Summary:

The 20-bed Transplant, Hepatobiliary and Vascular Surgery Unit specializes in kidney, liver, intestinal, pancreas transplants, all liver cancer surgeries, and vascular surgeries. Nurse Assistants (NAs) on this unit work closely with the interprofessional team for both inpatient and outpatient care to ensure smooth transitions across the care plan. The staff comprises experienced employees with over 10 years of service and new team members.

Nurse Assistant Summary:

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific patient care duties to ensure patient safety and comfort. Assists in planning and implementing patient care, responds to emergent situations per established procedures, and participates in ongoing education. Follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.

Education/Experience Required:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. CNA preferred.
  • Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (e.g., Patient Care Technician or Patient Assistant Technician), which may vary in title but involves similar responsibilities.
  • Alternatively, one of the following:
    • Currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
    • Foreign-trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the U.S. and does not hold a Michigan RN license.
    • Medical Assistant program, with or without experience.
    • At least one year of experience in a NA, PCT, PAT, or similar role.
