Nurse Assistant I, 7 Cancer Center West, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Full-time 12 hr. Days, Winston-Salem

JOB SUMMARY: Provides assistance to nursing staff by delivering specific treatments in addition to basic nursing care to assigned patients. Delivers direct and indirect care following physician and nursing orders to achieve high standards of age/developmental specific care.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED. Completion of a North Carolina State Approved Nurse Aide I course. Experience preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Listed with the N.C. Board of Nursing as a Level I Nurse Aide required. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participates in implementing the nursing process by providing direct care under the supervision of an RN.
  2. Performs special procedures correctly under the direction of an RN.
  3. Creates and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  4. Ensures complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information.
  5. Communicates effectively and professionally with team members, patients, and families.
  6. Assumes responsibility for personal performance, growth, and development.
  7. Provides age-appropriate care according to Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Strong oral and written communication skills; effective performance amid workload changes; basic computer skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Contact with patients, families, visitors, staff, and medical personnel in various circumstances. Exposure to blood-borne and contagious diseases; potential for stressful situations and interruptions. Occasional radiation hazards and exposure to chemicals. Use of PPE required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and dexterity as per percentages specified.
  • Talking, hearing, seeing.
  • Lifting/carrying: up to 20 lbs., 50 lbs., 100 lbs. maximum as specified.
