Job summary

Kettering Health Main Campus is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) to support patient care on a 12-hour night shift. The role combines HUC and NA duties on an interdisciplinary team, coordinating unit activities and assisting with patient care as delegated by the licensed nurse.

The HUC NA will maintain and coordinate patient records, communicate with nursing staff, physicians, and other staff, and support department operations.

Qualifications

• KH Health Coordinator training completed upon hire into role
• Nursing Assistant Orientation completed upon hire into role
• CPR/BLS certification
• One of: six months CNA hospital/long-term care; CNA course completed in last six months; nursing student/pre-nursing listed on transcripts; current KH employee

Responsibilities

• The HUC NA blends Health Unit Coordinator and Nursing Assistant duties as part of the interdisciplinary patient care team.
• Supports patients with activities of daily living and performs delegated patient care skills.
• Coordinates day-to-day unit activities, handles patient records, and communicates with nursing staff, physicians and interdepartmental personnel.
• Serves as a resource for physicians and other health team members for the electronic medical record.
• Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager and assists with department operational needs.

Responsibilities

• The Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) has a dual focus, a combination of the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) and Nursing Assistant (NA) roles. They serve as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team.

• The HUC NA supports patients with activities of daily living and performs patient care skills as delegated by the licensed nurse within the Ohio Board of Nursing Scope of Practice.

• The HUC NA also collaborates with unit leadership in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the patient care unit. This includes the processing of patient records and ongoing communication with nursing staff, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel. The HUC NA serves as a resource for physicians and other members of the health care team for the electronic medical record.

• The HUC NA is responsible for maintaining and demonstrating knowledge, skill, and ability of the delegated tasks. The HUC NA also supports department operational needs, and performs other duties as assigned.

• The HUC NA reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

Applicants Must Have:

• Successful completion of KH Health Coordinator training upon hire into role
• Successful completion of KH Nursing Assistant Orientation upon hire into role
• Certification in CPR/BLS
• Must have one of the following:
  • Six months experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital or a long-term care facility
  • Completion of Nursing Assistant course in the last six months
  • Nursing student or listed as pre-nursing as shown on transcripts
  • Current employee with Kettering Health
