  • Under direct medical supervision, performs general anesthesia.

Job description

Administers anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in collaboration with anesthesiologists.
Job Responsibilities
  1. Performs pre- and post-anesthesia assessments on patients.
  2. Assembles supplies and equipment for anesthetic cases and checks them for safety and proper function.
  3. Stocks medication carts and anesthesia machines.
  4. Assists in expediting the operating room schedule by helping the Anesthesiologist prepare patients for surgery.
  5. Sets up IV fluids for each patient in the pre-op holding area, labeling each with dates and times.
  6. Under direct medical supervision, performs general anesthesia, including airway management and all levels of sedation and monitored anesthesia care in an anesthetizing location.
  7. Assists in post-anesthesia care, including medicating patients as needed, managing fluids, respiratory weaning, and endotracheal extubation.
  8. Checks and orders supplies and medications as needed.
  9. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualifications
  1. Masters and/or Doctoral degree in a related field, required.
  2. Graduate from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), required.
  3. Unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
  4. Certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) within one year of graduating from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, required.
  5. American Heart Association BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, required.
