DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Nurse Aide, you will support the nursing staff at SCI Waymart in carrying out individualized care plans for inmates. By completing basic nursing tasks and procedures, you will help the staff maintain optimum inmate health and provide quality care. Your daily duties will include:

  1. Collecting specimens as directed by the Registered Nurse for urine, feces, and sputum.
  2. Assisting inmates with daily living activities and hygiene to ensure basic physical care needs are met.
  3. Following a nursing care plan, providing care and interventions consistent with inmates' needs, and documenting assigned aspects of the nursing care plan.
  4. Participating in emergency situations and drills as assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours are to be determined from the following shifts:
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • This position is eligible for full benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirements:

This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
