The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking dedicated and caring Nurse Aides at the State Correctional Institute (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. Join our team and contribute to a fulfilling role that genuinely transforms lives!


As a Certified Nurse's Aide at SCI Laurel Highlands, under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will provide skilled care and personal care to inmates. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Performing basic nursing skills and procedures to support inmate health.
  • Completing required documentation.
  • Collecting specimens (urine, feces, and sputum) as instructed.
  • Assisting inmates with daily living activities and hygiene.
  • Following nursing care plans and documenting care provided.
  • Responding to emergencies, including performing CPR and participating in drills.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours to be determined; 8 hour shifts, with rotating off days
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • DOC is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirement:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
