Position Overview
- Assists with CPR under supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
- Documents patient activities and data accurately using appropriate forms and systems. Performs activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care. Completes assigned duties within the time frame set by the RN.
- Reinforces discharge teaching and promotes patient self-care activities.
- Performs clinical skills such as vital sign measurement, aseptic techniques, specimen collection, applications of hot/cold therapy, simple respiratory therapy, post-mortem care, ostomy care, and applying TEDS. Provides complete AM/PM care, records vital signs, intake/output, and participates in skin rounds.
- Assists with patient admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Observes patients for significant changes.
- Enhances communication and interactions with others.
- Collaborates with RN for referrals, verifies physician's orders, and clarifies procedures or observations as needed. Communicates patient progress and diagnostic results to RN. Reports patient data clearly and thoroughly.
- Identifies and reports patient safety risks and issues to appropriate personnel.
- Participates in quality improvement activities relevant to practice.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Preferred paid or practicum experience in a clinical setting.
- Credentials: AHA Heartsaver AED certification; non-licensed candidates must obtain it before the end of orientation.
- Skills: Proficiency in English, good communication, public relations, and bedside manners.
- Work Hours: 8 hours/day.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, climbing, carrying objects, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling/crawling, wrist movements, pinching, keyboard use, and sensory activities like taste and smell.
- Occasional demands include lifting, continuous talking or hearing, and sensory requirements such as near and far vision, color discrimination, depth perception, and hearing accuracy.
- Occupational exposure risks include bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne diseases, uneven surfaces, noise, and dust.
