The PCT (Nurse Aide) performs and assists with activities of daily living as well as certain treatments for patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Responsibilities
- (50%) Under the direction of the nurse, prioritizes and organizes care for assigned patients, performing basic nurse aide skills as outlined in orientation, competencies, policies, and procedures. Including but not limited to: rooming patients, obtaining vital signs and blood glucose, transporting patients and supplies, and hourly rounding.
- (25%) Documents treatments and pertinent observations in patients' charts and provides reports on tasks completed to the team.
- (25%) Maintains a clean, safe, well-stocked, and orderly unit.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the mission, goals, policies, and standards of nursing.
- Recognizes, supports, and implements Medical Center and unit policies and work rules.
- Provides for the age-specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures.
- Performs according to procedure in all Medical Center emergency situations.
- Provides and ensures a safe and secure environment for patients.
- Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times to provide excellent customer service.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certifications and Licensures
- Credential: BLS: Basic Life Support
- Equivalent Experience: Required within 1 month of hire or transfer.
- Credential: CENA: Certified Educated Nurse Aide
- Equivalent Experience: Must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a CNA, or completion of EMT certification, or completion of an accredited LPN program, or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an accredited RN program. Effective 11/22/2019, Medical Assistant credentials such as RMA, CMA, or CCMA are also accepted. For current PCTs with lapsed certifications, opportunities for certification renewal will be provided.
Required Education
- Education: High School Diploma or GED

Physical and Mental Requirements
- Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief, and death.
- Ability to wear PPE including latex or substitutes.

- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform postural changes for long periods.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials, following safety protocols.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
- Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, and feeling, with frequent repetition.
- Physical demand level: Medium; ability to lift/carry weights as specified and perform physical tasks as outlined.
