Job summary

Regency Integrated Health Services in Bastrop, TX is offering a Nurse Aide in Training program with on-the-floor and online training. Successful trainees may qualify for Education Assistance to become a Certified Nurse Aide and will receive paid on-the-job training under supervision.

During the introductory period, you will start as Hospitality Aide for two weeks, performing non-clinical duties to understand resident care responsibilities. Completion leads to CNA training offered by the facility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
• Experience as a caregiver is preferred.
• Good communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide residents with comfort and safety; report situations that may cause accidents or injuries.
• Carry out duties in accordance with resident care policy and procedure.
• Assist in daily care tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake, and moving residents as needed.
• Log care provided into Electronic Medical Records system.
• Measure and record vital signs.
• Observe and report symptoms and changes to nursing staff.
• Maintain care of equipment and supplies.
• Assist ambulatory residents and assist with wheelchair transfers.
• Perform movements safely with or without accommodations.
• Respond to call lights promptly and assess need for nurse assistance.
• Provide courteous customer service in sensitive situations.
• Other duties as assigned by Administrator or Nurse Management.

Overview

Nurse Aide in Training is a program that allows the employee to receive online and on the floor training as a Nurse Aide. Those that provide good customer service, are reliable, are team players, and have a strong work ethic will become eligible for Education Assistance to become a Certified Nurse Aide. Depending on availability and the employee’s learning preferences, PAID ON THE JOB TRAINING will be provided at NO COST through one of the following avenues:

• Classes on or offsite at a Regency location.
• A local program offered by a community college or technical school.
• An internship and a waiver to skip the class but be able to pass a skills check and practice exam provided by the facility, that qualifies the employee to schedule for testing.

What does a Nurse Aide and CNA do in skilled nursing?

The Nurse Aide and C.N.A.s work under the direction of the Charge Nurses and will provide assigned residents with assistance for activities of daily living as outline in the resident’s customized care plan. Nurse Aides and C.N.As must be compassionate, friendly, and enjoy helping others in order to provide the personal level of care expected.

Essential Functions

• Provide residents with comfort and safety; including being able to detect and report situations that may cause resident accidents or injuries.
• Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with resident care policy and procedure.
• Assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents from area to area, lifting, and transferring.
• Utilize and log in care provided into Electronic Medical Records system.
• Measure and record vital signs.
• Observe and report symptoms, reactions, and changes of conditions to residents to nursing staff.
• Maintain care of equipment and supplies.
• Walk with ambulatory residents or push in a wheelchair as required.
• Safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting in excess of 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Answer call lights in a timely manner, trying to address the need of the resident or determine if assistance is needed from a Charge Nurse or another department.
• Always provide good customer service - tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
• Other duties as assigned by Administrator or Nurse Management.

Prior to beginning the Nurse Aide class, you will work in the role of Hospitality Aide for a minimum of two (2) weeks. This introductory period allows both you and the facility to ensure the Certified Nurse Aide role is a good fit and provides you with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the responsibilities involved in caring for our residents.

During this time, you will assist the care team with supportive, non-clinical duties that do not require certification. These duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Answering call lights
• Making beds and assisting with maintaining resident rooms
• Passing water and supporting resident comfort
• Passing trays in the dining hall
• Assisting staff with other basic resident needs that do not require certification

Successful completion of this introductory period and demonstration of reliability, professionalism, and compassion for residents will allow you to move forward into the Nurse Aide Training Class provided by the facility.
