Overview

Nurse Aide in Training is a program that allows the employee to receive online and on‑floor training as a Nurse Aide. Those who provide good customer service, are reliable, team players, and have a strong work ethic will become eligible for education assistance to become a Certified Nurse Aide. Education assistance will be provided at no cost through one of the following avenues:

• Classes on or offsite at a Regency location.
• A local program offered by a community college or technical school.
• An internship with a waiver to skip the class but provide a skills check and practice exam, qualifying the employee to schedule for testing.

What does a Nurse Aide and CNA do in skilled nursing?

The Nurse Aide and CNAs work under the direction of the Charge Nurses and will provide assigned residents with assistance for activities of daily living as outlined in the resident’s customized care plan. Nurse Aides and CNAs must be compassionate, friendly, and enjoy helping others in order to provide the personal level of care expected.

Essential Functions

• Provide residents with comfort and safety, including detecting and reporting situations that may cause resident accidents or injuries.
• Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with resident care policy and procedure.
• Assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, caring for hair and nails, moving residents from area to area, lifting, and transferring.
• Utilize and log care provided into the Electronic Medical Records system.
• Measure and record vital signs.
• Observe and report symptoms, reactions, and changes of condition to residents and nursing staff.
• Maintain care of equipment and supplies.
• Walk with ambulatory residents or push in a wheelchair as required.
• Safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting in excess of 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Answer call lights in a timely manner, attempting to address the need of the resident or determine if assistance is needed from a Charge Nurse or another department.
• Always provide good customer service – tactful, appropriate communication in sensitive and emotional situations.
• Other duties as assigned by Administrator or Nurse Management.

Introductory Hospitality Aide Period

Prior to beginning the Nurse Aide class, the employee works in the role of Hospitality Aide for a minimum of two (2) weeks. This introductory period allows both the employee and the facility to ensure the Certified Nurse Aide role is a good fit and provides the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the responsibilities involved in caring for our residents.

The duties during this time include, but are not limited to:

• Answering call lights.
• Making beds and assisting with maintaining resident rooms.
• Passing water and supporting resident comfort.
• Passing trays in the dining hall.
• Assisting staff with other basic resident needs that do not require certification.
