Job Summary

The Nurse Aide I assists in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean, safe patient environment and performing job duties safely. Maintains clinical and professional competencies suitable to the needs of the patient population served.

Essential Functions

  • Supports patients/residents with activities of daily living.
  • Assists with personal hygiene of patients/residents.
  • Records vital signs, height, and weight measurements.
  • Feeds and ambulates patients/residents following specific procedures.
  • Keeps patient/resident rooms clean and orderly.
  • Monitors and reports changes in patient/resident conditions.
  • Informs patients and families about the unit and safety measures.
  • Performs clerical duties such as answering phones, data entry, and maintaining medical records.
  • Manages stock supplies and inventory.
  • Performs duties outlined in the Nurse Aide I scope of practice (per North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide I Tasks List).
  • Performs technical tasks with proper training, such as administering a 12-Lead Electrocardiogram and routine venipuncture.

Physical Requirements

This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds. Good English speaking and understanding skills are necessary. Manual and finger dexterity are required. Physical abilities testing is mandatory.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required for hires on or after 7/22/2018.
  • Current listing as a Nurse Aide I with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry.
  • BLS certification required per policy guidelines.

Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and skills appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patient population served.

  • Sharing of PHI is restricted to work-related needs on a need-to-know basis.
