Job summary

Margaret Mary Health is seeking a full-time Med/Surg nurse for day shifts, 76 hours per pay period, with every-other-weekend coverage. The role provides basic nursing care to Med/Surg/SCA patients across age groups and requires timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Responsibilities include frequent patient rounding, vitals monitoring, patient safety, discharge planning, and collaboration with the RN for condition-driven care.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic nursing care to Med/Surg patients of all age populations and document in EHR.
• Take vitals (BP, temp, RR, HR) and rounds every 2 hours or as needed.
• Respond to call lights promptly and ensure patient safety.
• Care for patients and assist with discharge/transfer tasks.

Job Summary

To provide basic nursing care to Med/Surg/SCA patients of all age populations.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.
• Understands the spiritual aspects of patient care & can give examples of such.
• Uses respect & dignity when dealing with death & dying.
• Aware of ethics committee if needed & knows how to address any ethical issues.
• Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted.
• Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
• Communicates effectively with RN when warranted by patient condition.
• Uses 2 patient identifiers before performing treatments, passing meal trays or obtaining specimens.
• Provides treatments as ordered in a timely & appropriate manner & documents in EHR to patients in all age ranges.
• Rounds on patients at a minimum of every 2 hours & more frequently as indicated.
• Responds to call lights promptly.
• Takes vitals signs including BP, T, RR, & HR as ordered & documents timely in EHR.
• Weighs patients using appropriate technique & documents timely in EHR.
• Records intake & output throughout the shift & documents timely in EHR.
• Assists with or bathes patient with privacy & documents timely in EHR.
• Provides AM care as needed & documents timely in EHR.
• Provides HS care as needed & documents timely in EHR.
• Passes, sets up, and collects meal trays timely & documents timely in EHR.
• Assists patients with meals as needed.
• Passes snacks/nutritional supplements & refreshes ice/water at least once per 8-hour shift.
• Assists with walking, turning, & transferring using appropriate technique & documents timely in EHR. Encourages patients to “Get Up”.
• Utilizes the correct bed type per patient admission status.
• Performs active or passive ROM using appropriate technique & documents timely in EHR.
• Applies medical equipment using appropriate technique & documents timely in EHR.
• Sets up patient’s room for admission. Performs admission tasks.
• Takes patients to car when discharged in wheelchair or as otherwise indicated.
• Transfers patient to other locations as directed, such as surgery, radiology or unit to unit transfer.
• Packages up patient’s belongings for discharge/or transfer.
• Care of patient after death.
