Job description

What You'll Do
  • Administers medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular, and intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance
  • Performs treatments and assists with nurse’s sick call
  • Assists with doctor’s sick call
  • Assists with nursing management of chronic care clinics
  • Responds to emergencies providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Performs subjective and objective assessment of patients
  • Collects vital signs and documents all findings promptly
  • Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
  • Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities (e.g., intrasystem or out to court) by reviewing patient care, transfer summaries, or release summaries
  • Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services in a timely manner
  • Participates in work‑related training and institutional training exercises
  • Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
  • Investigates and documents problem areas or concerns
  • Reviews shift reports from preceding shifts
  • Assists physicians with medical procedures
  • Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
  • Counsels and provides education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and disease prevention
  • Participates in quality assurance activities
  • Provides training and direction to new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and/or hospital aides
  • Serves as a resource person for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters
  • Provides orientation and training for new healthcare personnel under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor
  • Serves as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of the HCA, QIC, medical director, and/or advanced level provider staff
  • Participates in group programming
  • Participates in health and wellness initiatives
  • Performs administrative duties as indicated
  • Attends meetings
  • Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Assumes the duties of shift charge as assigned by the HCA, making shift work assignments and adjustments as necessary
  • Performs or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
  • Assists ancillary staff as needed to ensure patient care needs are met
Qualifications
  • Requires current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio issued by the Board of Nursing (Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code)
  • Valid Ohio nursing license required; application of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) allows practice across compact states
  • Ability to practice in a correctional setting and handle emergency situations
Compensation

Starting pay is approximately $78,000 based on location and shift assignments.
