Job summary

Stack's Bowers Galleries is seeking a Research & Descriptions Specialist in Costa Mesa to investigate provenance and write detailed catalog descriptions for world and ancient coins. You will assign references and work with collection management databases and auction software.

A college degree is preferred but not required; experience in numismatics and strong writing abilities are essential for success in this role.

Core Responsibilities

• Research & Attribute: Investigate the historical background, origin, minting data, and provenance of diverse numismatic items across multiple time periods.
• Write Detailed Descriptions: Craft accurate, descriptive, and engaging text for auction catalogs, collection databases, or educational publications.
• Assign References: Cross-reference physical items with standard numismatic guides and grading systems (such as PCGS, NGC, the Red Book, or Krause).

Required Skills & Competencies

• Numismatic Expertise: Familiarity with specific historical coinage, mainly World or Ancient Coins.
• Analytical Research & Writing: Exceptional written communication skills capable of transforming raw historical data into clear, persuasive, or academic descriptions.
• Software Proficiency: Familiarity with professional collection management databases, auction software, and basic office suites (like Microsoft Excel).
• Time Management: Capability to work efficiently under strict deadlines in fast-paced auction environments.

Education and Experience

Collage degree preferred but not required.

Previous work in numismatics not required but encouraged.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary:$22.00 - $24.00 per hour
