Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE: The Numeracy Coach will empower teachers by working directly with all stakeholders to bring about improvements in the classroom and school that will positively impact student achievement. The work of the numeracy coach will be based on scientifically based research and content knowledge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist teachers in analyzing data to provide differentiation, track trends, support instructional decisions, and plan lessons.
- Work with teachers to create and interpret formative and summative assessments.
- Plan collaboratively with teachers on a regular basis to ensure that Everyday Mathematics/SC Mathematics Standards are taught with fidelity and paced appropriately.
- Assist teachers in becoming familiar with SC Standards and support documents.
- Ensure differentiation is occurring in the classroom.
- Increase teachers’ awareness of instructional resources and how to use them effectively.
- Provide professional development for teachers on research‑based instructional strategies, content and pedagogy; plan opportunities for horizontal and vertical articulation and provide training on district programs such as Gizmos, Everyday Mathematics, Curriculum Mapping, Number Worlds, and graphing calculators.
- Co‑teach/model lessons with/for teachers.
- Serve as a liaison between school and district; collaborate with coaches from other schools.
- Observe teachers in a coaching capacity to provide feedback and support instruction.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid South Carolina teaching license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of being hired.
- Must be Highly Qualified in the content area or be able to become Highly Qualified within 60 days of being hired.
EXPERIENCE
- Three to five years experience as a Math/Science teacher or elementary grade level preferred.

- Speak and hear.
- Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and focus vision.
- Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered acceptable forms of communication.
- Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls.
WORKPLACE EXPECTATIONS
- Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
- Have regular and punctual attendance.
- Follow all District policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities.
- Adhere to confidentiality as directed by federal, state and local laws and district administrative rules regarding sensitive information. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
