About this position

About Aalo Atomics

Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory‑fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor leveraging cutting‑edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.

About the role

Aalo Atomics is hiring a Nuclear Work Planner to develop work packages that allow our teams to perform maintenance, modifications, and commissioning work safely and correctly. You will support current Idaho facilities and help establish the work management practices needed as Aalo‑0 and Aalo‑X enter commissioning and operations.

We are looking for someone who understands nuclear work in the field, writes clear instructions, and follows a job through completion. Your planning must reflect actual equipment conditions, approved technical requirements, and the experience of the people performing the work.

What you'll do
  • Develop preventive and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, troubleshooting, and commissioning work packages for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and control equipment within your qualifications.
  • Perform field walkdowns with craft personnel, Operations, and Engineering to verify scope, equipment identification, access, job sequence, and drawing accuracy.
  • Write clear work instructions with prerequisites, acceptance criteria, inspection and hold points, required qualifications, tools, materials, and post‑maintenance testing.
  • Coordinate hazard reviews and incorporate approved controls for electrical energy, pressure, temperature, radiation, chemicals, lifting, confined spaces, and other job‑specific hazards.
  • Coordinate with Operations on plant conditions, equipment availability, isolations, and work authorization. Route proposed work for required safety basis and change reviews.
  • Confirm that approved drawings, procedures, parts, material certifications, special processes, and inspection requirements are available before work is scheduled.
  • Support work prioritization and scheduling; identify resource needs, long‑lead materials, and dependencies that affect execution.
  • Support field questions and route changes through the approved process. Reconcile completed packages, test results, equipment history, and configuration records.
  • Help improve work management procedures, reusable job plans, and computerized maintenance management system records. Incorporate craft feedback and lessons learned.
Qualifications
  • At least five years of relevant maintenance, operations, or technical experience, including at least two years developing or substantially supporting nuclear work packages.
  • Experience at a commercial nuclear plant, DOE nuclear facility, naval nuclear program, or comparable nuclear installation.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical procedures and translate them into executable field instructions.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear work controls, energy isolation, configuration management, quality requirements, and post‑maintenance testing.
  • Ability to coordinate technical reviews, resolve incomplete information, and maintain accurate records in electronic work management systems.
  • Clear technical writing, sound judgment, and a willingness to challenge work that is incomplete or cannot be performed as written.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant military training, an apprenticeship, a technical credential, or practical nuclear experience may satisfy the technical preparation needed for this role; a four‑year degree is not required.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous qualification as a nuclear maintenance or work control planner.
  • Experience with DOE nuclear work management, safety basis interfaces, or preparation for readiness reviews.
  • Experience planning commissioning work, plant modifications, or maintenance on first‑of‑a‑kind equipment.
  • Experience with sodium or other liquid‑metal systems, heat transport equipment, pumps, valves, electrical distribution, or instrumentation and controls.
  • Experience building preventive maintenance programs and implementing a computerized maintenance management system.
    Requirements
  • Based in the United States
  • Willing to work on-sitein Idaho Falls, ID
