Job description

Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor leveraging cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.

About the role

Aalo Atomics is hiring a Nuclear Craft Supervisor to lead the field personnel performing maintenance, installation, modifications, and commissioning work at our Idaho facilities. You will support current facility needs and help build the craft capability required for Aalo-0 and Aalo-X.

We need a hands‑on leader with strong nuclear work habits who can organize a crew, recognize when conditions have changed, and insist on correct execution. You will mentor personnel and establish the standards expected as our facilities transition into nuclear operations.

What you’ll do
  • Direct assigned craft employees and coordinate contractor craft work within the responsibilities established for the job. Match assignments to each person’s training and qualifications.
  • Review work packages with the planner and craft personnel. Verify that scope, instructions, materials, tools, and inspection requirements support field execution.
  • Conduct pre‑job briefings that address the work sequence, individual responsibilities, hazards, critical steps, contingencies, and stop‑work conditions.
  • Verify required Operations authorization, equipment status, approved isolations, permits, and prerequisites before releasing the crew to perform work.
  • Observe field work and enforce procedure use, equipment identification, independent verification where required, foreign material exclusion, housekeeping, and proper tool use.
  • Stop work when conditions differ from the package or controls are inadequate. Protect the work area, notify the appropriate personnel, and obtain approved resolution before resuming.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Planning, Quality, Radiological Controls, and safety personnel. Ensure required inspections and hold points occur before the work proceeds.
  • Maintain accurate work records and shift handoffs. Report job status, emerging issues, resource needs, and schedule impacts without overstating completion.
  • Ensure completed work receives the required testing and inspections. Provide complete turnover records to Operations for equipment restoration and return to service.
  • Coach craft personnel, assess performance, identify qualification gaps, and support corrective actions and continuous improvement of field practices.
Qualifications
  • At least seven years of relevant craft maintenance or technical field experience, including at least three years in a nuclear environment and two years as a supervisor, foreman, or qualified crew lead.
  • Experience at a commercial nuclear plant, DOE nuclear facility, naval nuclear program, or comparable nuclear installation.
  • Strong practical knowledge in at least one craft discipline—mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation and controls—and the ability to coordinate work across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience executing controlled work packages, conducting pre‑job briefings, verifying prerequisites, and maintaining complete work records.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear maintenance practices, energy isolation, configuration control, quality inspections, and equipment turnover.
  • Ability to read drawings and procedures, identify field discrepancies, and obtain technical resolution through the authorized process.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold standards under schedule pressure, communicate directly, and mentor less‑experienced personnel.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant apprenticeship, military technical training, trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience. A four‑year degree is not required.
Preferred qualifications
  • Previous qualification as a nuclear maintenance supervisor or craft foreman.
  • Experience supervising commissioning, plant modifications, outage work, or maintenance at a DOE nuclear facility.
  • Experience with sodium or other liquid‑metal systems, industrial process equipment, or first‑of‑a‑kind reactor systems.
  • Experience supervising mixed employee and contractor crews and developing craft training and qualification requirements.
  • Experience supporting readiness reviews, corrective action programs, or establishment of a new maintenance organization.
Requirements
  • Based in the United States
  • Willing to work on‑site in Idaho Falls, ID
