Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology seeks a Science and Engineering Unit Supervisor (Environmental Engineer 5) in the Nuclear Waste Program, based in Richland, WA. You will provide senior-level engineering oversight for CERCLA and RCRA cleanup, and supervise a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers.

You will coordinate with DOE, EPA, and project managers on tank waste retrieval, groundwater remediation, and hazardous waste permitting, ensuring timely, compliant results.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington or equivalent.
• Five years of environmental engineering experience including cleanup of contaminated sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead the science and engineering behind Hanford site cleanup and CERCLA/RCRA activities.
• Provide senior engineering oversight and supervise a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers.
• Coordinate with DOE, EPA, contractors and project managers on tank waste retrieval, groundwater and soil remediation.
• Review and comment on waste site designs and supporting technical documents.
• Ensure remedial approaches align with MTCA, CERCLA, and RCRA requirements.
• Plan, assign, and oversee work, coaching staff to deliver high-quality results on schedule.
