Job summary

Crane Company is seeking a Nuclear Technical Manager to lead a team of engineers and scientists supporting the Nuclear Product Line. You will drive design processes, coordinate with manufacturing, and ensure high performance through metrics and mentoring.

The role emphasizes cross-functional leadership, collaboration with sourcing for supplier qualification, and advancing new nuclear instrumentation specifications across diverse product lines. Domestic and international travel is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading engineering teams.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience performing complex product design and analysis.
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally 10% of the time
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, develop, and retain talent, and drive a culture of high performance by implementing relevant output metrics, focusing on accountability, coaching, and mentoring
  • Develop the team’s technical product depth, and apply it to a variety of design challenges.
  • Drive overall team performance and ownership of technical scope of new product development, continuous improvement, and sustaining activity
  • Foster a collaborative relationship with the manufacturing engineering team to insure design for manufacturability and drive a problem-solving culture
  • Drive collaboration with Sourcing team to identify and qualify new suppliers, and mitigate risks around long-lead components
  • Help the business meet quality and on-time delivery commitments to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Support our customers and commercial team as we develop specifications for new nuclear instrumentation applications, ensuring specifications are complete and achievable
  • Prioritize the team’s tasks, monitor and update utilization
  • Optimize execution by applying various models, including resources from other product lines or businesses, on-site contractors, and engineering service providers
  • Develop and maintain design processes that drive consistency and help insure good first pass yield of engineering designs
  • Lead collaboration efforts with other divisions of Crane Nuclear and Process & Flow Technologies, technical title holders, and other technical managers with the goal of establishing best-in-class design processes
  • Lead the development of new design practices and maintain existing design practices to ensure they reflect lessons learnt and any changes to design envelope with associated impact
  • Own and drive some elements of the infrastructure of the broader Reuter-Stokes Technology team. Examples could be intellectual property, operational metrics, knowledge management, or similar topics that cut across all product lines.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • 8+ years’ experience leading large engineering teams5+ years of Nuclear detector design experience
  • Professional Engineering license (Mechanical) strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, particularly Section III
  • Familiarity with modelling software such as ANSYS, MCNP, GEANT, Garfield++, or Zmax.
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP system.
  • Results oriented self-starter with track record of delivering results.
  • Experience operating in a matrix structure
