Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Modeling & Simulation Professional to work on the RELAP5-3D team within the Reactor Systems and Heat Transport Department. The role focuses on modernizing the codebase, improving structure, readability, and maintainability while integrating new features and tools.

The position requires a BS with 2+ years or an advanced degree with relevant experience; strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• BS in Mathematics, Engineering, CS or related field with 2 years relevant experience or an advanced degree.
• Advanced degree with 2+ years relevant experience as applicable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Update legacy Fortran code to modern standards and restructure.
• Refactor complex routines and improve inline documentation.
• Develop new features and algorithms in Fortran; leverage Python scripts.
• Apply automated documentation systems to streamline updates.
• Submit code updates via pull requests and participate in IRUG meetings.
• Collaborate with analysts and external partners to support integration.
• Perform thermal hydraulic design/safety analyses using RELAP5-3D or similar tools.
• Participate in planning and reviews to align with long-term goals.
