With nuclear energy powering the next wave of American progress, we’re ensuring our country has the fuel it needs for the next generation of reactors, no matter what’s happening around the world.

We are backed by top tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.

About This Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Nuclear Safeguards and Materials Control & Accountability (MC&A) Analyst to join our team. In this critical role, you will ensure compliance with nuclear safeguards regulations, develop and implement MC&A programs, and support operations by maintaining accurate material control and inventory tracking at a nuclear fuel cycle facility

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain MC&A programs to ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, and international safeguards regulations.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on nuclear material balances, inventories, and movements to ensure accountability and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze and reconcile discrepancies in nuclear material accounting and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and documentation related to nuclear material control and safeguards.
  • Perform nuclear material risk assessments and vulnerability analyses, identifying and mitigating potential threats to material security.
  • Collaborate with operations, security, and regulatory teams to support safe and compliant handling of nuclear materials.
  • Assist in developing and conducting training programs for staff on MC&A and safeguards procedures.
  • Represent the organization during audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews by agencies such as the NRC, DOE, and IAEA.
  • Stay updated on evolving regulatory requirements and advancements in MC&A technologies and best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field. Advanced degrees (MS, MBA, or PhD) may substitute for years of experience, depending on the degree level.
  • Strong knowledge of NRC, DOE, and IAEA safeguards requirements and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MC&A software and tools, including database management systems.
  • Familiarity with nuclear material measurement techniques and instrumentation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for preparing regulatory reports and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a regulated, high-security environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
  • Certification in nuclear safeguards or material control (e.g., ANSI/ANS 3.5).
  • Experience in nuclear safeguards or MC&A at a nuclear facility.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at General Matter. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock options.
