Job summary

UT-Battelle’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks an Associate Nuclear Engineer to advance incident modeling and computational sciences for nuclear safety analyses.

You will work with reactor physics, depletion, and radiation transport modeling, using SCALE, MCNP, OpenMC, and Serpent on HPC systems, with a focus on safety and fuel-cycle analyses. Collaboration with engineers and scientists is essential.

Qualifications

  • PhD/MS/BS in nuclear engineering or related field with required experience.
  • Experience building, executing, and interpreting reactor physics, depletion, or radiation transport models with production-quality codes.
  • Familiarity with nuclear fuel cycle basics, reactor operation, used fuel characterization, and criticality safety fundamentals.
  • Python scripting to automate model construction, execution, and post-processing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication for technical reports and sponsor briefings.

Responsibilities

  • Apply reactor physics, depletion, criticality safety, and radiation transport modeling to characterize fuel cycle activities and advanced reactors.
  • Build and execute computational models using SCALE, MCNP, OpenMC, and Serpent on HPC platforms.
  • Quantify uncertainty and modeling bias in results; document defensible methods.
