Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Nuclear Engineer in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division to perform R&D in reactor physics modeling and simulation. You will contribute to nuclear nonproliferation efforts through advanced analysis and method development.

The role requires a PhD in nuclear engineering within the last five years and hands-on experience with neutron transport tools (MCNP, OpenMC, Serpent, SCALE, VERA, MOOSE).

Qualifications

• PhD in nuclear engineering completed within the last 5 years.
• Strong background in nuclear reactor physics and R&D experience in the field.
• Experience with neutron transport and reactor analysis software (listed).
• Proficiency in programming/scripting languages (Python, C++, Matlab, JavaScript).

Responsibilities

• Perform R&D in nuclear reactor analysis M&S (steady-state, depletion, fuel cycle analyses).
• Model conceptual advanced reactors and their subsystems.
• Evaluate safeguards metrics during hypothetical reactor misuse scenarios.
• Collaborate across divisions to execute NNSA programs.
• Prepare and present periodic reports documenting R&D activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environment, and quality programs.
• Travel occasionally for domestic and international engagements.
