Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks an Operations Engineer to advance nuclear nonproliferation research in the Uranium Chemistry, Application, and Simulation Group at ORNL.

The role combines hands-on uranium processing, design development, and procurement to support Nuclear Materials Verification and the Nonproliferation Stewardship Program, with collaboration across ORNL staff and sponsors.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemical, Nuclear, or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years related experience; M.S. with 4+ years preferred.
• Experience in chemical engineering design outputs: System Requirements Documents, Process Flow Diagrams, Specification Sheets.
• Familiarity with the Nuclear Fuel Cycle.

Responsibilities

• Participate in projects that design, fabricate, assemble, and operate nuclear fuel cycle unit operations and processes.
• Contribute to R&D projects involving nuclear fuel cycle processes.
• Interact with ORNL staff and sponsors; document work in reports and presentations; assist proposal development.
• Interface with investigators, engineers, scientists, technicians, operators, fabricators, and modelers.
