Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform imaging procedures and radiopharmaceutical handling in accordance with department and regulatory standards. You will position patients, optimize image quality, and ensure safety throughout procedures.

Responsibilities include reviewing orders, educating patients, preparing/ administering radiopharmaceuticals, and performing quality control. ARRT CNMT certification and CPR are required or pursued within the first year.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school, or 6 months to 1 year of related experience.
  • Certification in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT CNMT) preferred/required within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Position patient and perform imaging procedures; analyze results and address image quality issues.
  • Review patient history and orders; educate patient about procedures and equipment.
  • Order, prepare, administer, store and dispose radiopharmaceuticals per protocol and regulations; monitor patient status.
  • Prepare equipment; select exposure factors; perform QC procedures and troubleshoot equipment.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

This job performs various nuclear imaging procedures and therapies in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (50%)
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (25%)
  • Orders, prepares, administers, stores and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (15%)
  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (10%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of associate’s degree
Preferred
  • Prior nuclear medicine experience.
Additional Employment Requirements
  • Nuclear Certification and Registration - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification is required within 12 months of hire. – Employees in a Nuclear Medicine role (prior to July 1, 2022) who do not have a NM certification are not required to obtain them; employees in a NM role with existing NM certification are required to maintain active certifications. Employees hired, or transferred into the NM role after July 1, 2022, are also required to maintain active certifications.

  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
