Position Summary
Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital

Position Summary

Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers responsible for performing dose preparation and administration for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes, conducting patient procedures, processing and enhancing images, and preparing images for physician review.

SCHEDULE: 7a-3:30p flexible, call required once every 4 weeks

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. Dual-certified technologists may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as guided by guidelines or physician orders.
  • Exercises professional judgment to ensure quality care, maintains a professional demeanor, and recognizes patient conditions to ensure successful procedures.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and strategic goals.
  • Performs all nuclear medicine procedures, including dynamic, static, and functional studies, as well as SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required.
  • Performs PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by the physician.
  • Handles all computer acquisition, processing, documentation, and quality control of nuclear medicine equipment as per manufacturer and procedural guidelines.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals, including positron emitters, and maintains accurate records in compliance with state regulations.
  • Performs safety checks and maintains compliance with all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for radiopharmaceutical and medication administration; dual-certified technologists may administer contrast media as needed.
  • Prepares and calculates patient-specific radiopharmaceutical doses, maintains records, and participates in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials under supervision.
  • Participates in radiation safety programs and ensures patient and staff safety.
  • Maintains punctual attendance and compliance with all institutional policies and standards.

  • Participates in process improvement activities.
  • May be required to work at any facility.
  • Provides safe patient transport.
  • Handles radioactive materials safely, maintains records, and stays updated on procedural and equipment changes.
  • Demonstrates professional judgment, decision-making skills, and ensures study accuracy and patient/family education.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, The Joint Commission, FDA, NRC, EPA, and state regulations.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Licensure/Certification

  • Must hold current certification as a CNMT by NMTCB or ARRT (N) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Must hold a current Alabama State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Must maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience

  • Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety is required.
