General Description of the Job Class
Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests, and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and participate in technical procedures including in vivo and in vitro studies; operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation such as stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma, and apparatus for in vitro counting.
- Calibrate and prepare radiopharmaceuticals for patient administration; formulate radiopharmaceuticals from pre-prepared kits. Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating malfunction. Calculate data, including patient study results and radioactive decay.
- Evaluate recorded images for technical quality.
- Process computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
- Provide care for patients of all ages during examinations, initiating life support if necessary.
- Maintain inventory and records related to radiopharmaceutical activities, including receiving, dispensing, and disposal.
- Train and guide radiologic technology students and new employees.
- Monitor the Nuclear Medicine Department for contamination using portable survey meters.
- Perform EKG preparation and tracing.
- Assist in developing and evaluating new procedures; consult with physicians on nuclear medicine applications.
- Administer thyroid therapy, monitor patient doses, and ensure proper treatment under supervision.
- Assist with quality assurance and equipment maintenance.
- Contribute to education and training of medical staff.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate or completed a program meeting eligibility for registry/certification or currently hold required registry or certification.
- Experience beyond education/certification not required; Level I must obtain ARRT or NMTCB certification within 18 months.
- Level II requires at least two years' experience; Level III requires at least four years' experience in the specialty.
Degrees, Licensure, and Certification
- ARRT (N) or NMTCB certification within 18 months of employment.
- BLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in office software and radiation safety.
- Knowledge of radiation protection, safety, and IV management skills.
