Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform radionuclide imaging, manage doses, and ensure patient safety. You will work with PET/CT and other imaging modalities, while maintaining accurate electronic records and quality control.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Specialty Training Program is required.
• Certification as ARRT CT Technologist and NMTCB Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
• Certification as ARRT Radiology Technologist is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Calibrates and assays isotope doses and prepares radiopharmaceuticals.
• Explains procedures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
• Performs radionuclide imaging including PET and CT studies and processes images.
• Maintains patient records in RIS/HIS and manages isotope inventory.
• Performs routine safety surveys and reports irregularities to leadership.

Job Summary

Uses radioactive materials to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses or injuries; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of their assigned clinical area. Participates in the training of new employees and students as necessary.

Job Duties

• Calibrates and assays isotope doses; prepares radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals.
• Explains procedures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients; positions patients for procedures; provides protection to patients and personnel in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
• Calibrates equipment and performs camera and computer quality control; operates selected equipment to perform radionuclide imaging including scanning, organ blood flow studies, organ function studies and PET and CT studies; processes images.
• Performs semi-in-vitro studies in wet lab.
• Takes call and performs emergent studies when necessary.
• Utilizes radiology information system and electronic records systems to maintain information required for accurate patient records.
• Maintains record of receipt, use, storage, and disposal of isotopes.
• Performs routine and emergency laboratory radiation surveys and wipe tests; surveys contaminated material; assists in containment and cleanup of radiation spills.
• Performs quality control tests of equipment; immediately notifies the Team Leader or designee of irregularities.
• Notifies the Team Leader or appropriate maintenance personnel of equipment malfunctions according to procedure.
• Shares responsibility for ordering supplies; orders isotopes as needed.
• Acts as a Nuclear Medicine liaison; provides support to physicians as requested; refers problems to the Team Leader.
• Maintains a positive interpersonal relationship with patients, physicians, and employees.
• Performs processing and formatting of computer studies as requested by Team Leader.
• Performs scheduling of patients as requested by Team Leader.
• Performance of nuclear medicine exams and assisting with procedures and therapies require access and handling of non-controlled medications and radioactive pharmaceuticals.
