Job summary

AdventHealth Port Charlotte seeks a Radiology Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform a wide range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures. You will ensure ALARA safety, prepare radiopharmaceuticals, and document results in EMR/PACS while supporting patient comfort and education.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Adheres to radiation safety and ALARA principles.
• Maintains patient doses and procedure logs per standards.
• Performs daily QC and equipment checks.
• Manages inventory and survey tests for daily radiopharmaceuticals.
• Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals per physician orders.
• Documents in EMR and PACS systems.
• Explains procedures to patients and ensures comfort.
• Performs a broad range of Nuclear Medicine procedures with quality imaging.
• Verifies patient identity and exam appropriateness.
• Maintains clean exam rooms and notifies when stock is low.

Job Description:

• Adheres to all radiation safety and ALARA principles, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.
• Maintains accurate records and documentation, including patient doses, procedure notes, and radiopharmaceutical usage logs, in accordance with regulatory standards.
• Conducts daily quality control and equipment checks, including dose calibrator, well counter, and camera performance, and reports any issues promptly.
• Assists in inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and performing surveying and wipe tests for daily radiopharmaceuticals as well as maintaining stocked exam rooms with necessary supplies.
• Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems
• Explains procedures to patients, addressing questions and ensuring comfort throughout the exam process.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Performs a wide range of Nuclear Medicine procedures demonstrating proficiency with camera acquisition and computer processing, adapting to new technology, and helping develop the knowledge and competency of coworkers and students.
• Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use, and that all equipment undergoes routine cleaning and safety checks.
• Notifies appropriate personnel when inventory is low.
• Performs a wide range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures, while ensuring image quality and diagnostic accuracy.
• Verifies patient identity, confirms exam appropriateness, and screens for contraindications prior to performing any procedure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of human physiology
• Knowledge of Scintigraphic equipment, Acquisition computers, and processing stations
• Knowledge of Hot Lab equipment Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Image Quality and Radiation Safety
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds
• A high level of multitasking, organization, and proactive customer service skills
• Must possess sound judgment, critical thinking skills, ability to manage multiple details, tasks, and decision-making abilities under busy and stressful working conditions
• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to perform Nuclear Medicine procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail
• Knowledge of communication styles and constant deployment of proper engagement behaviors when encountering patients, staff, and physicians
• Patient care and communication skills to deal with patients from infant, childhood, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups
• Basic clerical skills as needed for filing, record keeping, and documentation
• Independent judgment and initiative
• Ability to assist in a wide range of duties to ensure the smooth operation of the department
• Age-specific care
• Ability to learn and use Radiology software packages including EMR, Radworks, and PACS
• Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures
• Ability to follow Basic Radiation Safety concepts of time, distance, and shielding to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff
• Appropriate technical skills in Nuclear Medicine
• Basic EKG knowledge
• BLS upon hire or within 90 days. CPR skills check biannually
• Must be able to function independently with little or no supervision
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Additional languages preferred

• 1+ year experience [Preferred]
