At Houston Methodist, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist II position is responsible for completing a variety of routine to complex nuclear medicine procedures of high difficulty. This position is a member of the direct patient care team and is fully competent in all aspects of nuclear medicine. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist II position serves as a mentor to Nuclear Medicine Technologist I and students by utilizing skills and knowledge to help train and educate others. This position works independently by exercising sound judgment and executing above average clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and patient care situations. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist II position provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role emphasizes delivering exceptional patient care and adherence to radiation standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure patient safety and customer service.

Essential Functions
  • Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a team-focused work unit, actively helping colleagues to achieve department results. Collaborates with the patient care team by effectively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information.
  • Mentors Nuclear Medicine Technologist I and students to help build confidence and skills, fostering a culture of accountability and engagement.
  • Ensures clear, professional communication to promote understanding and high-quality service during patient and customer interactions.
Service and Safety Functions
  • Performs nuclear medicine procedures, adjusting techniques to optimize image quality and patient safety.
  • Assists physicians during diagnostic or therapeutic interventions, including sterile procedures.
  • Provides thorough explanations and instructions to patients and families, using appropriate language and non-verbal cues.
  • Follows safety standards, uses ALARA principles, maintains sterile techniques, and complies with radiation safety and infection control policies.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements, reports errors and near misses, and participates in safety initiatives.
Financial and Developmental Responsibilities
  • Accurately documents procedures and enters charges promptly.
  • Uses resources efficiently and manages time effectively.
  • Engages in departmental projects and initiatives, and updates personal development plans regularly.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved educational program for required credentials.
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Required Licenses and Certifications: BLS, CMRT or equivalent, ARRT-N or CNMT.
Skills and Abilities
  • Competent in technical skills and safety protocols.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of working independently and handling challenging situations.
  • Proficient with computer systems and software relevant to healthcare documentation.
Additional Requirements
  • Uniform: Scrubs and other department-approved attire.
  • On-call availability and travel within and outside Houston metropolitan area may be required.
