Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $32.77 - 38.51

The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging services in the specialty of Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology and PET/CT as an advanced application. The technologist is responsible for the operation of a variety of equipment to produce images of the patient’s body for diagnostic purposes and therapeutic procedures involving radiopharmaceuticals. The Nuclear Medicine technologist is responsible for providing exposure in the field of Nuclear Medicine to the Radiologic Technologist program students. Interviews patients, explains procedures, performs venipuncture and positions the patient for procedures. Reviews test results with radiologists/referring physicians.

This position may be eligible for a sign-on incentive, relocation, and tuition loan repayment.

Essential Job Functions

1. Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
2. Follows NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) guidelines to limit patient and staff exposures.
3. Monitors equipment performance and if needed notifies service personnel.
4. Prepares radiopharmaceutical and checks their purity.
5. Performs clinical assessment and nuclear medicine exams as ordered by the physician. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of all patients in the nuclear medicine area. Interviews patient, explains examination and administers pre-medication or radiopharmaceuticals as appropriate.
6. Uses cognitive nuclear medicine skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to the anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Selects proper technical factors to perform scan. Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care is provided.
7. Analyzes nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology and PET/CT information, medical history, and utilizes independent judgment during the exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
8. Utilizes computer to process acquired data, access clinical and/or financial information.
9. Follows the Quality Management Program for administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals.
10. Maintains patient examination records in accordance with Billings Clinic policies, procedures and standards.
11. Coordinates scheduling, transportation and scanning of patient.
12. Follows Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines for proper storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
13. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance. Participates in maintenance of laboratory accreditation. Complies with general training required by Billings Clinic as well as specific training required of the position.
14. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of an NMTCB recognized Nuclear Medicine program or meet eligibility requirements to become registered with NMTCB or ARRT.
• Registered with the NMTCB or ARRT in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT (N) within six months of employment.
• Fundamental understanding of general Nuclear Medicine and radiopharmaceuticals.
• Current Montana License as appropriate to provide PET/CT services.
• Current Health Care Provider CPR Certification.
