Job summary

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is seeking a qualified Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform clinical Nuclear Medicine testing, including general and cardiac studies, with accurate isotope dosing and proper safety protocols. The role requires patient history review, consent, and clear documentation, while ensuring high-quality imaging and education for staff and patients.

Successful candidates will have completed a Nuclear Medicine Technology program, NYSDOH license, NMTCB/ARRT

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
• Current NYSDOH license.
• Certification by NMTCB and/or ARRT.
• BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Administers isotope dosage accurately following established departmental procedures.
• Accurately records dosage administered.
• Determines appropriate isotope required for a particular study.
• Verifies correct patient for procedure by checking name on requisitions and patient band, and selects the correct patient in the network.
• Explains procedures to patients before the exam, answering questions in lay terminology.
• Reviews patient questionnaire prior to examination.
• Obtains patient history and consent, reviews patient condition.
• Employs safety precautions when transferring patients to and from procedure areas.
• Labels images correctly with patient identification.
• Observes patients during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrates proficiency in all Nuclear Medicine studies.
• Follows prescribed protocols for disposal of radiopharmaceuticals and accessories.
• Completes examinations in a timely manner, utilizing professional technical skills efficiently and observing radiation safety standards.
• Prepares or enters written documentation such as informed consents, patient chart documentation, and other related functions.
• Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories regularly; maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
• Maintains departmental reports, facilities, equipment, and materials to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.
• Ensures delivery of quality Nuclear Medicine services, acting as an educational resource.
• Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
• NYSDOH License.
• Certification by NMTCB and/or ARRT.
• Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, pulling, and/or positioning and transferring patients.
• Lifting supplies and equipment; moving heavy equipment.
• Exposure to electrical and radiation hazards.

Travel

As part of employment, occasional travel to other locations may be needed to support operational needs.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Successful completion of a pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Employee Health Services.
• Electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
• Successful completion of a 4‑panel drug screen.
• Compliance with regulatory pre‑employment screening requirements.
• Provision of required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range for this position is established based on relevant experience. The range reflects Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
