Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. The smallest of Duke Health's four hospitals at 123 beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties.

Summary

Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests, and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.

Work Performed
  • Coordinate and participate in various technical procedures, including in vivo and in vitro studies.
  • Operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation, including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma cameras, and apparatus for in vitro counting.
  • Calibrate and prepare radiopharmaceuticals for patient administration, formulate radiopharmaceuticals from pre-prepared kits.
  • Review calibration data to detect instrument malfunctions, calculate patient study results, and evaluate image quality.
  • Process computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
  • Care for patients of all ages during examinations, initiate life support if necessary.
  • Maintain inventory and records of radiopharmaceutical activities, including disposal activities.
  • Provide instruction and technical guidance to students and new staff, assist in training.
  • Monitor for contamination using portable survey meters, perform EKG prep and tracing.
  • Assist in developing and evaluating new procedures, consult with physicians, administer thyroid therapy, and ensure proper treatment under supervision.
  • Assist with quality assurance, equipment maintenance, and education of new physicians.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with office computer software.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection and safety.
  • General computer skills, IV management skills.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduate or completion of a program meeting eligibility for registry/certification, or current registry/certification.

Experience requirements vary by level, from none to several years in the field.

Certifications
