Job summary

Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, is seeking a Nuclear Medicine-Rad Tech to support daily Nuclear Medicine operations, QC/QA, and dose preparation under supervision. Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Current Louisiana State Licensure.
  • Current NMTCB or ARRT Certification.
  • BCLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily operations with lead technologist and manage QC/QA for equipment.
  • Perform diagnostic exams and radiopharmaceutical dosing under supervision.
  • Prepare and measure doses; calibrate and operate scanners or cameras.
  • Ensure safe receipt, handling and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Assist or act as charge technologist in their absence; order supplies as needed.
  • Follow radiation safety policies and patient care protocols for all ages.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The staff technologist works closely with the leadtechnologistcoordination the daily operations and functions of Nuclear Medicine Services.He/Sheis responsible forall QC/QA onequipment and patient doses. In the absence of the Lead Technologist, he/she will assume the duties of the lead technologist.

What you will do in this role
  • Works withthe chargetechnologist to coordinate the daily patient flow and functions of Nuclear Medicine Services.
  • Assesses performance of quality control procedures and documentationregardingequipment checks as well as calibrations on pharmaceutical tagging
  • Assures proper receipt,handlingand disposal of radioactive materials according to regulations and policies.
  • Proficient in performing all exams and can assume the duties of the charge technologist in his/her absence.
  • Orderssuppliesas necessary.
  • Knowledgeable about departmental and RRMC policies and procedures.
  • Assists or performs any duties thatthe chargetechnologist delegates.
  • Prepares stock solutionsofradiopharmaceuticals and materials; calculates and administers doses under the direct supervision of a Radiologist.
  • Calibrates equipment.
  • Assessespatient’sunderstanding ofexamand informed consent.
  • Performs diagnostic exams on patientsas prescribed byphysician.
  • Usesscanners or scintillation cameras for detection of radiation emitted to produceimageoforgan.
  • Measures radioactivity using Geiger counters,scalersand scintillation detectors.
  • Follows radiation safety techniques and policies in the use and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Provides care appropriate toconditionand age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.
  • Assesses,evaluatesand informs physician of changes inpatient’scondition during testing.
  • Instructs and preparespatientforexam.
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing exams.
  • Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different labs.
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
  • Takescalls according to monthly schedules, after regular department hours.
  • Compiles andmaintainsquality assurance information.
  • Interacts professionally withpatient/family.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteriaappropriate tothe following age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent,geriatricand general population.
  • Modifies job duties and communicates with customers in anage appropriatemanner.
  • Assesses the patient’s pain and involves the patient in effective management of the pain usingage appropriateinterventions.
