Job summary

  • Current New York State DOH license required.

Overview Good Samaritan University Hospital is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Diagnostic Imaging team. In this role, you will perform high-quality nuclear medicine procedures while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and exceptional care. Job Details
  • Provide exceptional patient care before, during, and after nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and well-being throughout the examination.
  • Monitor and manage intravenous lines, including central lines, mediports, PICC lines, oxygen supplies, drains, and other patient support equipment as appropriate.
  • Establish effective communication with patients and their families by introducing yourself, explaining procedures, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Deliver care with professionalism, compassion, and respect for patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations within the scope of training and competency.
  • Verify patient identity, physician orders, pregnancy and breastfeeding status, and ensure informed consent has been obtained according to hospital policy.
  • Confirm the appropriateness of requested procedures and collaborate with the referring physician or authorized user when clarification is required.
  • Obtain and document pertinent patient history and maintain accurate records within PACS and the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure all required pre-procedure preparations have been completed, including fasting, hydration, thyroid-blocking medications, bowel preparation, medication adjustments, and other protocol-specific requirements.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures, expected duration, patient participation, and radiation safety precautions.
  • Perform nuclear medicine imaging procedures in accordance with departmental protocols, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of radiopharmaceuticals, medical and surgical supplies, storage media, and other materials necessary for efficient department operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of administered radiopharmaceuticals, quality control testing, patient records, and regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate patient transportation by communicating with nursing units and transport personnel and transport patients when necessary.
  • Register and check in patients, accurately enter and manage orders within the hospital information system, and maintain PACS quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Monitor imaging equipment performance and perform routine quality control procedures on imaging systems, storage media, radiation detection, and counting equipment.
  • Communicate operational concerns and process improvement opportunities to departmental leadership.
  • Maintain compliance with all hospital, state, federal, and radiation safety regulations.
Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited two-year Nuclear Medicine Technology program required.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or certification eligible or
  • Registered Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligible.
  • Candidates must obtain certification/registration within six (6) months of employment or pass the first available examination if testing is not offered within that timeframe.
  • Current New York State Department of Health (NYS/DOH) license required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
Salary Range

USD $48.33 - USD $62.98 /Hr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
