JOB SUMMARY
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NM Tech), under the general supervision of a Radiologist, performs nuclear medicine procedures, PET, and theranostic procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Quality Assurance: Performs high-quality nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures (planar, SPECT, and SPECT/CT), according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Evaluates the quality of imaging procedures and maintains equipment through quality control (Q.C.). Collaborates with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operations.
- Caring Practices: Communicates effectively with patients to identify service requirements, ensure correct exams, and establish rapport. Instructs patients and families, respecting HIPAA, about procedures and assesses their ability to tolerate exams.
- Patient Safety: Explains procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety. Prepares patients and areas, positions patients, and uses aseptic techniques when necessary.
- Radiation Safety: Adheres to all radiation safety protocols, verifies radioactive drugs, screens for pregnancy, administers radiopharmaceuticals safely, and educates patients on radiation safety.
- Collaboration: Reports issues, maintains supplies, orders radiopharmaceuticals, and ensures accurate image transfer to PACS for review and dictation.

- Ability to observe and communicate changes in patients’ conditions, administer first aid, and use emergency equipment.
- Maintains current knowledge and skills across age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric.
- Performs tasks independently, maintains professionalism under stress, and strives for patient satisfaction.
- Provides training and education to new team members and students.
- Familiar with system workflows including PACS, EMR, and other medical information systems.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.
- Willing to take call if required.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION
Must hold ARRT-N or CNMT certification, certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine or by the NMTCB.
