Penn Medicine is Seeking a Full-time Nuclear Medicine Technologist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine!
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Dose Calculations and Administration/Radiopharmacy
- Prepare appropriate radiopharmaceuticals for use following procedure manual and record necessary data in computer for dose calculations.
- Receive, open, log, and check in all incoming packages and enter into the computer system.
- Calculate, dispense, and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients undergoing procedures in Nuclear Medicine. Verify patient identity by at least name and date of birth. Record all data into computer system.
- Follow NRC, State, and TJC regulations when dealing with all radioactive material used in Nuclear Medicine.
- Imaging Procedures
- Execute scanning procedures performed at HUP.
- Explain and answer questions to patients having procedures done in Nuclear Medicine.
- Visually check that patient and all necessary patient records are present in Nuclear Medicine.
- Position the patient on the imaging table and explain the necessary procedures, instrumentation, and time to complete testing.
- Perform dynamic or static Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging procedures on patients in accordance with the procedure manual, and process studies for review.
- Observe patients for changes and initiate CPR if necessary.
- Check image quality and perform QC on instruments to ensure quality images.
- Communicate with physicians regarding patient studies and communicate results to hospital personnel as needed.
- Enter patient data into RIS to ensure accuracy.
- Instruct radiology or nuclear medicine students where applicable.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area, replacing supplies and equipment as needed.
- Perform complex PET examinations, attenuation scans, and reconstructions using dedicated PET/CT scanners in coordination with on-site cyclotron and isotope suppliers.
- Operate imaging equipment and related computer systems, support equipment, and perform QC procedures.
- Record and maintain imaging logs and records in compliance with TJC, State, and NRC regulations.
- Check calibration of survey and monitoring equipment against standards.
- Report issues with equipment to the supervisor.
- Process acquired data to generate reconstructed images.
- Non-Imaging Procedures
- Operate laboratory auxiliary equipment for routine procedures.
- Perform venipuncture, prepare blood samples, and label components.
- Dispose of radioactive waste in accordance with regulations, recording all disposals properly.
- Use instrumentation to monitor radiation levels, ensuring they do not exceed safe limits, and provide a safe environment for patient studies.
Credentials:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
- ARRT(N) or NMTCB (Required) at time of hire
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program
- Certification and/or registry in Nuclear Medicine, completing an AMA-approved program
- Experience in nuclear medicine preferred
