Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, WA seeks a Metallography and Materials Technician to join the Nuclear Material Processing group and support actinide-related metallurgical work.

You will operate arc melters, casting, rolling, polishing, and cutting, and perform microscopy-based characterization including SEM/EBSD/EDS and FIB-SEM sample prep for TEM/APT analyses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with lab experience in high-hazard settings.
• Technical Institute AA or higher with relevant lab exposure preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Spans basic sample prep (metallography) to advanced FIB/SEM prep for TEM/APT.
• Synthesizes and studies structures and properties of materials.
• Studies materials from atomic to macro scales and conducts short/long-term characterization.
• Develops steps and processes for manufacturing, joining, finishing, treating, strengthening materials.
