Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. The role supports design, calculations, and planning across Oak Ridge, TN and Lenexa, KS locations, contributing to safety and efficiency in construction projects.

The internship targets Electrical/Instrumentation students with strong teamwork and communication skills, and a drive to learn within a large, safety‑mocused engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Instrumentation and Controls or Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s/Master’s).
• Strong organizational and communication skills; able to work effectively in a team.
• Proficient with emails, phones, and in-person communications; capable of coordinating meetings.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess client needs and specify suitable equipment for effective design solutions.
• Understands departmental standards, engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines; offers input as required.
• Develops I&C design documents such as Master Instrument Indexes, Alarm Setpoint Lists, Area Classification Guides, Control Narratives, Mounting Details, Rack Layouts, and Field Instrument Requirements.
• Supports feasibility and planning studies by analyzing customer data and coordinating with engineers to provide recommendations.
• Assists in contract administration for instrumentation and control systems, including FMCS, DCS, Remote I/O Cabinets, and instrumentation, ensuring timely submittals.
• Responds to RFIs from clients and contractors on instrumentation, controls, operations, logic, and startup issues.
• Reviews other disciplines' deliverables for I&C compatibility and impacts.
