Job summary

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) is actively seeking a Nuclear Facility Safety Engineer, Level 6, to support the DOE at Y-12 (Oak Ridge, TN) and Pantex (Amarillo, TX). You will provide technical safety support, lead hazard analyses, and ensure compliance with DOE standards.

This position requires a US citizenship, a security clearance, and pre-employment drug screening. The role involves on-site work with potential medical examinations and WSAP considerations, offering competitive pay and AIS

Qualifications

  • BS Degree plus 20 or more years of direct experience with 10 or more years of DOE-specific experience Nuclear/Safety Analysis Engineering.
  • Ability to obtain Q clearance required. Active DOE Q preferred.
  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
  • Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nuclear facility safety technical support services for the management of DOE nuclear facilities at Y-12 in accordance with 10 CFR 830 Subpart B and applicable standards such as DOE-STD-3009-94 and DOE-STD-1189-2008.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in hazard identification, hazard screening, and hazard evaluation; accident and consequence analysis; selection of controls; and documentation in safety analyses and technical safety requirements.
  • Shall be familiar with technical issues raised by the US Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board pertaining to DOE nuclear facilities.
  • Shall have the experience and background to serve as a Lead Facility Safety Engineer in either 9212 or 9215 Complexes.

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Responsibilities
Nuclear Facility Safety Engineer, Level 6
  • The successful candidate shall provide nuclear facility safety technical support services for the management of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear facilities at the Y-12 National Security Complex in accordance with 10 CFR 830 Subpart B and applicable standards such as DOE-STD-3009-94 and DOE-STD-1189-2008.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in the hazard identification, hazard screening, and hazard evaluation process; the accident and consequence analysis process; the selection of engineered and/or administrative controls credited for the prevention or mitigation of postulated accidents; and the documentation of the results of these processes in safety analysis reports, documented safety analyses, and technical safety requirements.
  • Shall also be familiar with technical issues raised by the United States Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board pertaining to DOE nuclear facilities.
  • Shall have the experience and background to serve as a Lead Facility Safety Engineer in either 9212 or 9215 Complexes.
