Job description

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities
  • Subcontractor will provide Project Engineering support and coordination for various projects across one but not limited to:
  • Commercial, Infrastructure, Production Modernization, and/or Production Stockpile projects.
  • Subcontractor will also provide Project Engineering support necessary to complete planning, design and implementation of new machine tools and/or infrastructure upgrades.
  • Subcontractor will provide technical integration, leadership, guidance, and direction to other multi-disciplined engineering teams as requested for high profile plant initiatives and will appropriately apply ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) requirements for work in nuclear facilities; plan and direct the engineering activities on projects; establish detailed project design scope, budgets, and schedules; professionally coordinate engineering efforts with Production, Maintenance, Project Management, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls personnel; and review project engineering progress against approved schedules and take corrective action when required.
  • The nature of many of these large expense-funded Production capability initiatives are such they fall outside the conventional capital projects organization, need near‑term attention, and require the coordination and integration of technical resources both internal and external to the ME organization. The Project Engineering group does not have the resources internally, nor are resources available full time from other avenues to complete this work.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS Degree from an ABET accredited school in a technical discipline, plus 10 years or more of direct experience required, or an MA or MS with 10 plus years of experience.
  • DOE Q clearance is preferred.
Special Requirements
  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - external applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post- offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.

"This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Applicants selected may be offered but cannot begin work until funding has been confirmed."
