Job summary

Global Laser Enrichment LLC in Wilmington, NC, is seeking a Nuclear Facility Equipment Operator to monitor, control, and operate UF6 enrichment equipment. You will qualify at operator stations, assist with commissioning/decommissioning, and support assembly/disassembly of equipment.

The role requires qualification for NRC Q-clearance and willingness to work off-normal shifts as needed to meet operational goals.

Qualifications

• Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent preferred.
• Associate degree or higher in a related field.
• 2 years plant experience preferably in a nuclear power plant or nuclear fuel fabrication facility (ex: nuclear operations or Navy nuclear propulsion experience) OR equivalent education in engineering or nuclear technology.
• Must be able to read, interpret, and comply with procedures with attention to detail.
• Basic knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and health physics procedures.
• Ability to diagnose problems in power plant equipment and write maintenance requests.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to work extended hours on occasion.
• Ability to work various shifts to support organizational goals.

Responsibilities

• Starts and stops systems, as required, for plant operations.
• Monitors indicators for operation within prescribed limits.
• Obtains data and performs calculations per procedures or engineering requests.
• Responds to indicators and alarms per facility procedures.
• Performs operations in accordance with administrative procedures including shift turnovers and log-keeping.
• Performs operations in compliance with the NRC license.
• Responds to and mitigates consequences of facility transients.
• Assists operations supervision in implementing the conduct of operations program.
• Identifies and corrects deficient conditions using the Corrective Action Program.
• Assists in developing and improving procedures and processes.
• Executes lockout/tagout program in support of maintenance.

Nuclear Facility Equipment Operator

Reporting to the Test Operations Lead (Operations Manager) and working under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Nuclear Facility Equipment Operator is responsible for the monitoring, control, and operation of UF6 enrichment equipment. Individuals in this role are expected to qualify at various operator stations, assist with equipment commissioning/decommissioning, and assembly/disassembly of equipment. Personnel will be required to work off-normal shifts, as needed, to support operational goals.

NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent's ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the monitoring, control, and operation of nuclear facility equipment.
• Starts and stops systems, as required, for plant operations.

• Utilizes human performance tools when conducting facility operations.
• Actively participates in training to achieve initial and continuing qualifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

• Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret) preferred.
• Completion of a minimum of an associate degree in related field preferred, high school diploma required.
• 2 years relevant plant experience preferably in a nuclear power plant or nuclear fuel fabrication facility (ex: nuclear operations or Navy nuclear propulsion experience) OR equivalent education in engineering or nuclear technology.
• Must be qualified and able to perform the responsibilities and tasks of the position to accurately read, interpret, and comply with company/department procedures, provide attention to detail, and minimize errors.
• A basic knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and their operation and health physics procedures.
• Ability to diagnose problems in power plant equipment and write maintenance requests for repairs.
• Ability to use basic hand tools required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
