Global Laser Enrichment in Wilmington, NC is seeking a Nuclear Facility Equipment Operator to monitor, control, and operate UF6 enrichment equipment under the supervision of the Test Operations Lead and Shift Supervisor.

The role requires qualification at operator stations, involvement in commissioning/decommissioning, and working off-normal shifts as needed; NRC Q-clearance and site access must be maintained.

Qualifications

  • Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, control, and operate nuclear facility equipment.
  • Start and stop systems as required for plant operations.
  • Monitor indicators for operation within prescribed limits.
  • Obtain data and perform calculations per procedures or engineering requests.
  • Respond to indicators and alarms per facility procedures.
  • Follow administrative procedures including shift turnovers and log-keeping.
  • Operate in compliance with NRC license requirements.
  • Respond to and mitigate facility transients.
  • Support conduct of operations program and supervisor initiatives.
  • Identify and correct deficient conditions using the Corrective Action Program.
  • Assist in developing and improving procedures and processes.
  • Execute lockout/tagout in support of maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineering to install, commission, and decommission equipment.
  • Support maintenance personnel in repairs and facility modifications.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks and overhead cranes as needed.
  • Work in contaminated environments with PPE as required.
  • Maintain clean, organized workspaces; use human performance tools.
  • Participate in training for initial and continuing qualifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Reporting to the Test Operations Lead (Operations Manager) and working under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Nuclear Facility Equipment Operator is responsible for the monitoring, control, and operation of UF6 enrichment equipment. Individuals in this role are expected to qualify at various operator stations, assist with equipment commissioning/decommissioning, and assembly/disassembly of equipment. Personnel will be required to work off-normal shifts, as needed, to support operational goals. NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the monitoring, control, and operation of nuclear facility equipment.
  • Starts and stops systems, as required, for plant operations.

  • Responds to indicators and alarms in accordance with facility procedures.

  • Operates powered industrial trucks and overhead cranes to support various evolutions.
  • Performs work in contaminated/potentially contaminated environments, as needed, including wearing a full-face respirator and other PPE.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of workspaces.
  • Utilizes human performance tools when conducting facility operations.
  • Actively participates in training to achieve initial and continuing qualifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret) preferred.
  • Completion of a minimum of an associate degree in related field preferred, high school diploma required.
  • 2 years relevant plant experience preferably in a nuclear power plant or nuclear fuel fabrication facility (ex: nuclear operations or Navy nuclear propulsion experience) OR equivalent education in engineering or nuclear technology.
  • Must be qualified and able to perform the responsibilities and tasks of the position to accurately read, interpret, and comply with company/department procedures, provide attention to detail, and minimize errors.
  • A basic knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and their operation and health physics procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose problems in power plant equipment and write maintenance requests for repairs.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion.
  • Ability to work various shifts to support organizational goals, as needed.
