Job Description

What You'll Do:

  • Initiate, formulate and develop assumptions for financial forecasts, in conjunction with operating company/business segment personnel, using corporate financial models including the identification of significant strategic issues and alternative and/or contingency plans.
  • Perform monthly/quarterly variance reporting and analysis of budget vs. actual results and actual vs. prior year results on a consolidated or segment level for the primary purpose of improving future forecasts. This analysis will also aid operating companies in understanding their financial results and assist Financial Reporting in SEC reporting.
  • Develop/manage staff where applicable and serve as an example/advisor/mentor to departmental analysts.
  • Prepare and make reports to executive management and Board of Directors as assigned or required.
  • Develop special strategic evaluations of corporate business opportunities including but not limited to evaluating acquisition and divestiture opportunities and make recommendations based upon the results of the evaluations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, cost savings and revenue enhancement.

What We’re Looking For:

Financial Analyst Principal (Salary Grade 8)

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, preferred majors include accounting, finance, economics, business administration or engineering.
  • Experience: Six (6) or more years of work experience in the disciplines mentioned in the education requirement.

Financial Analyst Staff (Salary Grade 9)

  • Education requirements are listed below: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering required.
  • Experience requirement: Eight (8) or more years of work experience in the disciplines mentioned in the education requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This position requires extensive coordination with corporate finance, corporate planning & budgeting, accounting/tax, commercial operations, generation and transmission, regulatory, requiring the incumbent to work across functional boundaries and operating companies.
  • MBA, CPA, CMA, CIA, PE, CFP or other professional certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with AEP accounting desired.

Supports O&M and/or Capital budgeting process, reprojections, variance/other standard/ad-hoc reporting and analysis, and/or the improvement requisition process for a business unit(s), corporate group(s), operating company(ies) and/or for AEP Consolidated. Includes providing support of the related planning, budgeting and reporting applications and the billing/allocation processes. Note: A budget analyst will provide more limited support, either in activities performed or in groups supported.

Administers the company's enterprise risk management credit policy under supervision, including but not limited to supporting all AEP business units for moderately complex transactions and is responsible for determining the financial ability of AEP'' counterparties to deliver contracted products and services and meet payment obligations, negotiation of credit provisions for master agreements, and guaranty negotiation, execution, and maintenance to ensure best possible guaranty coverage.

The Accounting Manager - Nuclear Development, will support all facets of the accounting functions relevant to the strategic priorities of AEP’s Nuclear Development organization. This position is expected to play a critical role in the development, deployment, and ongoing application of relevant accounting policies and procedures to support the growth initiatives of AEP’s Nuclear Development organization in a manner that is compliant and consistent with AEP’s overall accounting policies. To that end, this position will regularly collaborate with AEP’s CAO organization and will require working cross-functionally with multiple business unit management teams as well as AEP’s external auditor. This position will also support internal management and major project reporting functionality to inform strategic decision-making of the AEP Nuclear Development leadership team.
