Job summary

X-energy, LLC, Oak Ridge, is seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer to ensure safe handling, processing, and storage of fissile materials at the TRISO-X Fuel Fabrication Facility. Responsibilities encompass developing safety bases, conducting risk assessments, and guiding engineering and operations teams to maintain regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any STEM field from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Level II: 3+ years in nuclear criticality safety with safety basis evaluations and subcriticality using NCS codes.
• Level III: 5+ years in NC safety with ISA risk assessments and ANSI/ANS-8.26-2007 guidelines.
• Level IV: 10+ years in NC safety with ISA leadership and extensive code usage.

Responsibilities

• Define safety basis for fissile operations and monitor IROFS, limits, controls, and barriers.
• Develop/review NCS evaluations demonstrating subcriticality for normal operations and upsets.
• Execute NCS computer codes/models to support evaluations.
• Participate in Process Hazards Analysis with multidiscipline teams.
• Advise on NCS impacts of changes to processes and facility designs.]
• Lead ISA Risk Assessments and ISA summaries as assigned.
• Conduct surveillances, inspections, and audits of fissile material operations.
• Develop/revise NCS training, postings, and operator aids.
• Support emergency response activities.
