Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. seeks a skilled Controls Engineer to support operations at the Oak Ridge, TN facility. You will diagnose and resolve issues across electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems to maintain production uptime.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing automation, programming PLCs and HMIs, testing modifications, and providing operator training. The role requires a DOE Q/Top Secret clearance eligibility and experience in regulated industrial environments.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical or related engineering field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with industrial control systems in regulated environments is required.
• Candidates must have an active or recently active DOE 'Q' clearance or DoD 'Top Secret' clearance.
• Proficiency with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems is expected.
• Knowledge of nuclear safety, cybersecurity, and quality standards is required.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and optimize control systems in a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial automation and control systems.
• Support design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of plant control systems.
• Develop, configure, program, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Troubleshoot control systems to identify root causes and restore operation.
• Analyze performance and implement improvements for reliability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to resolve issues.
• Provide technical support for upgrades, modifications, and equipment replacements.
• Support testing, commissioning, and validation of control system changes.
• Develop and execute testing procedures to verify functionality.
• Provide training to operators and maintenance staff on control systems.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and reduced downtime.
• Maintain engineering documentation and system records.
• Ensure designs comply with nuclear safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements.
• Support safe operation of critical plant systems in a 24/7 environment.
