Summary

The Requisition Engineer is an engineering role within the New Unit Business (NUB) Engineering Group. The position owns the technical integrity of material requisitions, engineering documentation support, WBS development, and materials cost estimation for NUB projects. This role serves as the engineering interface between Design Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, ensuring that materials are specified correctly, procured on time, and aligned with project deliverables.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the Field Service department’s standard operating procedures.
  • Engineering Documentation & Configuration Control
    • Review and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, P&IDs, and specifications to ensure requisitions capture correct part numbers, revisions, and materials.
    • Create and maintain SAP part numbers with technically accurate descriptions per SOP methodology; audit item master to eliminate duplicates.
    • Ensure revision traceability in ERP/PLM systems so procurement always reflects the latest released engineering configuration.
    • Identify discrepancies between design documents and ERP data; initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) as needed.
    • Coordinate with Engineering and Logistics to create final ship-loose BOMs and packing lists for NUB shipments.
  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Development
    • Build and maintain WBS elements for NUB Projects, including change orders, Engineering, PM, Logistics, procurement, and material deliverables within NUB capital projects.
    • Align WBS codes with project schedules, cost accounts, and milestone reporting.
    • Coordinate with Project Controls to ensure material milestones integrate into overall project tracking and earned-value reporting.
  • Technical Specification Development & RFQ Support
    • Draft or refine purchase specifications for raw materials, fabricated components, and subassemblies in support of NUB projects.
    • Review supplier RFQ responses for technical compliance—dimensional accuracy, material certifications, process capability, and applicable codes/standards (ASME, ASTM, AWS, API, ISO, etc.).
    • Vet technical details of RFQs before issue; coordinate with Design, Process, and Quality Engineering to resolve ambiguities.
    • Ensure QA/QC requirements (inspection level, certifications, test reports, MTRs) are accurately reflected in item master and purchase requests.
  • Material Requisition Engineering
    • Create requisitions for materials and services identified during the detail engineering phase of drawing and BOM creation.
    • Create requisitions in support of warranty, installation, and commissioning needs.
    • Monitor MRP releases and planned completion dates; develop SAP reports for shortage visibility.
    • Track lead times from BOM release to requisition creation; drive continuous improvement against cycle-time targets.
  • Manufacturing Engineering and Production Support
    • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to anticipate material needs for shop floor work orders.
    • Create requisitions for services, tooling, fixtures, consumables, and MRO items in support of NUB manufacturing.
    • Participate in supplier invoice approval and payment process.
    • Support monitoring and maintaining production material and consumables inventory levels.
    • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and PPAP documentation as the engineering liaison for procured components.
    • Participate in design reviews to provide procurement and manufacturability input.
  • Should-Cost & Estimating Engineering
    • Develop parametric, analogous, and bottom-up cost models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and tooling.
    • Own estimation of material purchases for NUB project budgets, proposals, logistics scope, and engineering change impact assessments
    • Perform make-vs-buy analyses with input from Manufacturing Engineering.
    • Maintain historical cost database; benchmark estimates against actuals to improve accuracy.
  • Standards, Codes & Compliance
    • Ensure requisitions and supplier deliverables comply with regulatory, environmental, and customer‑specific requirements (API, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, NACE, RoHS, REACH, ITAR, DFARS, etc.).
    • Maintain familiarity with relevant codes and standards, flag non-conformances before purchase.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination & Continuous Improvement
    • Work closely with Scheduling, Project Management, Procurement, and Design Engineers to optimize purchase request information and mitigate procurement risks.
    • Stay current with the progress of assigned projects; update the Project Planner as needed.
    • Foster teamwork, compliance, and continual improvement within the NUB Engineering Group.
    • Adhere to company objectives: Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Information Security.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical skills; proficiency in Excel and data analysis.
  • Solid organizational abilities; extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacture-to-order environment.
  • Able to be available and work outside of normal business hours to support projects when required.
