Job Summary

Candidate must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skillsnecessary to provide care appropriate to patients being seen in theoutpatient clinic at the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation hospital.Primary assigned rehab patient population will be Spinal CordInjury and complex patients, with ability to cover as needed. Theindividual must demonstrate knowledge and the ability to assessdata regarding the patient's status and provide care as describedabove.

Responsibilities

• Will work closely with, and under the supervision of, a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician.
• Take complex medical histories on patients for consultation by academic and community physicians.
• Order consultations and interact with members of other specialty medical teams.
• Perform physical examinations on new and return patients.
• Order laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
• Monitor dosages and adjust medications.
• Order and supervise the administration of physical therapy.
• Reach tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
• Develop treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
• Counsel patients and families about health wellness, illness and maintenance.
• Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
• Willingness to participate in quality improvement activities.
• May assist in research projects, special projects and committee functions.
• Coverage of other APC team members, as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Preferred:

• Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
